The Results Are In: Serenbe WaterSense Conversion Reduces Household Water Usage 27%
In the fall of 2009, American Standard Brands provided low-flow, WaterSense-certified toilets, faucets, and showerheads to 21 households in two communities near Atlanta, GA who volunteered to replace their existing plumbing products with these new, water-saving models.
The detailed water usage results of this retrofit study are now in, and they prove the test to be a resounding success. American Standard found that participating households experienced an average reduction of 18-27% in total water use, with residents of Serenbe experiencing a 27% reduction and residents of Chastain seeing an 18% reduction overall, all without any noticeable differences in water pressure or performance. For some households the savings were even as high as 50%, in fact.
Even with such significant water savings, the participating families in both communities reported that they were overwhelmingly satisfied with the fixtures. Most did not notice a difference in water pressure compared to their old fixtures and many families commented that they appreciated the attractive styling, greater comfort, and increased functionality of the WaterSense products.
